After a long hiatus I’m finally getting images from the Great Bear Rainforest posted. This fall we joined Russ Markel on board Passing Cloud a beautiful 70′ classic wooden schooner to venture into the Great Bear Rainforest in search of the elusive Spirit Bear. The Spirit Bear, a White Costal Black Bear, is thought to have magical powers by the people of the Gitga’at First Nations. It was indeed magical when this 8 year old male honoured us with a special appearance. The bear population on the B.C. coast, Grizzly’s and Costal Black Bears continue to be threatened by trophy hunters and the B.C. government’s refusal to ban hunting despite the overwhelming public disapproval. It’s a region that captures your imagination and heart. I can’t wait to return.
